Together with the Riky Rick Foundation, Sandton City has started a mental health program called Words That Heal to encourage "artivism." In addition to encouraging South Africans to spread messages of healing and optimism, the campaign seeks to start a dialogue on mental health.
About The Riky Rick Foundation
In addition to celebrating the late rapper's life, the Riky Rick Foundation aims to further "artivism," which is the fusion of activism and creative expression. Through its initiatives, the Foundation promotes social awareness, creativity, and mental health, especially among South Africa's young people.
A Space for Healing Through Words
Many South Africans are impacted by mental health issues. Particularly young individuals, since more than 60% of South African teenagers experience difficulties in this area. Sandton City wants to establish a platform for people to help one another through "Words That Heal" by sending encouraging personal notes to anyone experiencing mental health issues.
The public is welcome to take part by sending a voice message to someone in need via WhatsApp at 063 980 5816. A carefully chosen song of hope will be created from messages submitted before 17 August 2025. Later this year, this song will be made available on streaming services in an attempt to generate money for the Riky Rick Foundation's free rehabilitation program for young people.
Phase Two During Mental Health Month
The initiative's second phase will then move the idea into a more immersive setting in September and October. In remembrance of Riky Rick's life and legacy, Sandton City shoppers will be urged to listen to the song or his last album. A pop-up store will open in the middle of this.
Limited-edition goods will be available, and customers can customize them in-store with artist Samurai Farai. The Riky Rick Foundation will receive all sales profits from items and donations from corporate partners. This will help them keep up their efforts to support artistic expression as a healing tool and to establish safe spaces for young people. They'll be announcing the activation date soon.

As former Riky Rick once said, “Please believe in young people. Give them as many opportunities as they need to prove themselves.” This campaign builds on that belief, using words and creativity to change lives and raise awareness about mental health in an accessible, impactful way.
